Our Story: A Family Tradition
The Green family's legacy in auctioneering began with the arrival of Col. Festus J. Green, who immigrated to the United States from Somersetshire, England, in 1872 at the age of 14. Starting as a brick and block tradesman, he later transitioned into farming and eventually became an esteemed auctioneer. Residing in Schaller, Iowa, and later in the Early, Iowa area, Col. F.J. Green paved the way for the generations to come.
Roy J. Green, following in his father's footsteps, embraced the auctioneering profession at the young age of 16. The duo of "Col. F.J. Green & Son" became a household name, conducting sales not only in Sac County and the surrounding areas but also throughout the Midwest.
Col. F.J. Green, the pioneer of our family auctioneering tradition
Upon Roy J. Green's passing, his son, David L. Green, joined forces with the Colonel, becoming the third-generation Green auctioneer. David's early involvement in the auction and real estate business solidified his reputation in the West Central Iowa area. Known for his expertise across Sac, Ida, Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Pocahontas Counties, David also conducted purebred livestock sales in various states. After his sudden demise, his widow, Grace Green, continued to uphold the family legacy by operating the real estate business alongside the Sac County Abstract Company.
David L. Green, carrying on the family legacy
In 1977, Mike Green joined Grace to further expand Green Real Estate, offering his skills as an auctioneer. With a strong focus on selling farm land, recreational and lake properties, residential real estate, farm machinery, antiques, guns, and sportsman's auctions, Mike played a pivotal role in growing the company's reputation. Additionally, he gained recognition for his involvement in horse sales at the Belle Plaine Western Exchange in Eastern Iowa.
Jim Green, the fifth-generation auctioneer, continuing the family tradition
Following in his father's footsteps and surprising the family, Jim Green acquired his real estate license after graduating from Iowa State University in 2008. In 2009, Jim joined forces with Mike to become the fifth-generation Green auctioneer. Together, they currently operate Green Real Estate & Auction Company, engaging in the real estate market and conducting successful auctions year-round. Alongside their primary focus on farm land, lake properties, and residential real estate, they actively participate in larger farm machinery Consignment Auction Sales in the area.
