As we embark on the journey of designing our modern colonial home, I can't help but notice the subtle yet distinctive differences from the modern cottage look we've been working on. While there are similarities, it's important to remember that inspiration photos serve as a guide for color, textures, and overall vibe rather than a blueprint for the final outcome.

In our previous home, we achieved a cozy modern cottage feel by incorporating rustic wood elements such as beams in the living room, a canopy bed in our bedroom, and beautiful matte wood floors throughout. We also embraced the use of stonework both inside and outside the house, along with layering different patterns and textures to create intimate and inviting spaces. And let's not forget the enduring appeal of wallpaper, which played a crucial role in our design choices.

However, as we transition to our modern colonial home, one key element that stands out is the abundance of trim work. While simplicity guided our decisions in our previous home, our new space will be adorned with layered moulding, adding depth and character to each room.

Another exciting aspect of our modern colonial home is the incorporation of more traditional furniture shapes. The addition of classic armchairs can infuse a sense of elegance and timelessness into the overall aesthetic.

For our bathrooms, we are eagerly looking forward to exploring playful and innovative tile designs. With each bathroom featuring tiled floors, we have the opportunity to create unique and personalized spaces that align with our vision.

Rich and warm wood tones continue to captivate our attention. The combination of wood with mid-tone paint colors, rather than opting for solely dark or light shades, creates a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.

Of course, the timeless allure of wallpaper remains steadfast. The delicate spindled bed frame, classic-shaped nightstand, and charming smaller-scaled wallpaper in this bedroom showcase the perfect balance of tradition and modernity.

A wall mural has been a recurring dream of ours. The idea of displaying captivating artwork from floor to ceiling adds a touch of tradition and grandeur to any space. Additionally, the stair runner, curved railing, and white window shutters exemplify the timeless elegance we aim to integrate into our modern colonial home.

With high hopes for our new house, we must remain patient as creating our dream home is a process that takes time and careful curation. Furniture and decor will gradually come together to bring our vision to life. Stay tuned as we travel to Raleigh to select the perfect stain color for our white oak floors!
