Are you tired of the same old Sims 3 worlds? Do you want to create a custom world that is uniquely yours? Look no further! In this article, I will guide you through the process of setting up a custom Sims 3 world from scratch. Let's dive in!

Installing an Empty World

The first step is to install an empty world. There are several options available, including premade empty worlds or creating your own using Create-a-World (CAW). If you prefer to jump right into gameplay, I recommend choosing a premade empty world such as Deery Meadows or Redwood Harbor. These worlds provide a great starting point for customization.

Once you have installed your empty world, load your game, create a new game, and you're ready to get started!

Creating Households

To bring life to your custom world, it's time to create households. I recommend creating a total of 24 single, young adult Sims - 12 males and 12 females. This allows for a diverse and dynamic world without overwhelming yourself.

Here are the steps I follow to create my Sims:

  1. Click the "Randomize" button to get a variety of body shapes.
  2. Randomize the Sim's name or use a name generator like Namey.
  3. Set appearance with a wide variety of hair, eye, and skin colors for better genetics.
  4. Choose clothing based on the Sim's favorite color.
  5. Select a Lifetime Wish (LTW) based on career or skill preferences.
  6. Choose traits that align with the Sim's LTW, and randomize any remaining trait slots.
  7. Set favorite color, food, and music preferences.

If you want to dive deeper into creating your Sims, you can use a planning spreadsheet like the one shown below.

After creating all 24 Sims, leave them in the Sim Bin while you focus on creating their homes. You can create all male Sims first and then all female Sims, or mix it up based on your preference.

Moving in Sims

To simplify the first round of gameplay, try to move Sims in together whenever possible. This allows for a shorter initial phase. In your chosen world, look for homes with multiple bedrooms. Roll a random number to determine which Sims will become roommates in each house. Ensure that each Sim has their own private bedroom for a comfortable living arrangement.

Free Real Estate

Since all Sims are created as singles in Create-a-Sim, some may not have enough money to afford their chosen home. In this case, you can use the "free real estate" cheat. Here's how:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + C to open the cheat window and type in "testingcheatsenabled true".
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + C again to re-open the cheat window, and type "freerealestate".
  3. Move in the Sim. All real estate is now free.

After moving in your Sims, set their starting funds based on your desired gameplay experience.

Starting Funds

To add some variation to your Sims' starting funds, roll a number between 1 and 5,000 for each Sim. You can use the Online Banking Mod to open individual bank accounts for your Sims. When bills are due, each Sim can withdraw their portion and transfer it to the household funds.

University Degrees

If a Sim's LTW requires a University Degree, you can cheat them a degree using the Nraas Debug Enabler mod. Choose the degree related to their chosen career and roll a number to determine their grade. After cheating a degree, you'll also be able to select an additional trait for your Sim.

Gender Preference

To provide your Sims with more choices in partners, set their gender preference using the Nraas Master Controller mod. Setting everyone's preference for both males and females to 100 allows for a wider range of relationship options.

Mods & Rules

To enhance your gameplay experience, consider using additional mods such as NRaas Story Progression. Develop your own gameplay rules that suit your preferences and make the world feel more immersive.

With these tips and tricks, you can create a custom Sims 3 world that reflects your unique vision. Enjoy exploring and watching your Sims thrive in their new environment! And if you want to see me play in Redwood Harbor, join me on Twitch every Wednesday at 2:00 PM MT.

Remember, the world of Sims is yours to create and enjoy. Happy simming!
