Google Bard, the generative AI chat experience, is about to undergo a major transformation. In the coming days, it will be rebranded as "Gemini" and come with a new Android app, among other exciting updates.

Over the past few months, Google has been diligently enhancing Bard with various features and capabilities. It incorporated "Gemini" as the underlying model, adding an image generator as well. However, Google has been working on a significant change for Bard all along.

Recent evidence suggests that Google is looking to align Bard with its foundational model by rebranding it as "Gemini." An early changelog spotted by Dylan Roussel confirms that this change will happen very soon.

According to the changelog, Bard will now be known as Gemini. Google's reasoning behind this rebranding is to reflect its commitment to providing everyone with direct access to Google AI. Additionally, the changelog reveals that the "Gemini Advanced" tier, built on the powerful "Gemini Ultra" model, will be available from February 7. This paid product will offer expanded multi-modal capabilities, improved coding support, and the ability to upload and analyze files, documents, and data more deeply.

As part of the rebranding, Google Gemini will also introduce an Android app. Integrated with popular Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, Gemini will make learning, planning events, and accomplishing tasks more seamless on your phone. You can interact with Gemini through text, voice, or images. To experience Gemini on Android, download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store. If you have iOS, you can try Gemini in the Google app.

Although there's no preview of the app yet, previous evidence suggests that it will resemble the current Google Assistant experience on Android. The Google Assistant "app" on the Play Store is being updated to be known as "Gemini." Screenshots from an early version of the experience showcase a settings menu and provide a glimpse into what to expect.

The changelog mentions that the Gemini app will initially be available on select devices, including Tensor-powered Pixels and the Galaxy S24, in English within the US. It will gradually expand to include Japanese, Korean, and English globally, with more countries and languages to follow. Additionally, Gemini will be introduced in Canada on February 7, filling the void left by Bard's absence in the region.

While it is important to note that there may be slight changes between now and the official announcement, it is evident that Google is gearing up for an exciting launch.
