In August, apartment sales in Turkey witnessed a 17.0% decline compared to the previous year, with a total of 141,400 apartments sold. Istanbul took the lead with 24,286 sales, accounting for 17.2% of the total. Ankara followed with 13,642 sales (9.6%) and Izmir with 7,731 sales (5.5%). Meanwhile, Hakkari and Ardahan had the lowest number of apartment sales, with 16 and 28 apartments sold, respectively.

Mortgaged apartment sales in Turkey experienced a significant decline of 64.0% in August compared to the previous year, totaling 27,375 sales. Mortgaged apartment sales accounted for 19.4% of all apartment sales. Istanbul dominated this category with 5,636 apartments sold, representing 20.6% of all mortgage sales. On the other hand, Hakkari had the lowest number of mortgaged apartment sales, with just 1 apartment sold.

Other Forms of Apartment Sales in Turkey

In August, other forms of apartment sales in Turkey grew by 20.8% compared to the previous year, with a total of 114,025 apartments sold. Istanbul claimed the highest share, accounting for 16.4% of the total with 18,650 apartments sold. Ankara and Izmir followed closely with 10,178 and 6,655 apartments sold, respectively. Conversely, Hakkari had the lowest sales, with only 15 apartments sold.

Sales of New Apartments in Turkey

The number of apartments sold for the first time in Turkey witnessed an 18.2% decline in August compared to the previous year, with a total of 42,639 apartments sold. These transactions constituted 30.2% of all apartment sales. Istanbul took the lead with 6,375 apartments sold (15.0%), followed by Ankara with 2,932 apartments and Izmir with 1,972 apartments.

Sales of Secondhand Apartments in Turkey

In August, sales of secondhand apartments in Turkey experienced a 16.5% decline compared to the previous year, with a total of 98,761 apartments sold. Istanbul led the pack with 17,911 apartments sold, representing an 18.1% increase. Ankara and Izmir followed with 10,710 and 5,759 apartments sold, respectively.

Apartment Sales in Turkey Between January and August 2021

From January to August 2021, apartment sales in Turkey fell by 21.7%, with a total of 801,995 apartments sold. Sales of mortgaged apartments witnessed a significant decline of 67.9%, with 152,096 apartments sold. Conversely, other forms of sales rose by 17.9%, amounting to 649,899 apartments sold. First-time house sales decreased by 23.5%, with a total of 243,189 apartments sold. Second-hand home sales plummeted by 20.9%, with 558,806 apartments sold.

Apartment Sales to Foreigners in Turkey 2021

Foreigner apartment sales in Turkey experienced a remarkable 50.7% increase in August compared to the previous year, with a total of 5,866 apartments sold. Istanbul dominated this category with 2,729 apartments sold, followed by Antalya (976 apartments), Ankara (400 apartments), Mersin (242 apartments), and Yalova (233 apartments).

Iranians Top the List of Foreigners Owning Apartments in Turkey

In August alone, Iranians made the highest number of apartment purchases in Turkey, with a total of 911 apartments. They were closely followed by Iraqis (900 apartments), Russians (451 apartments), Afghans (313 apartments), and Kuwaitis (264 apartments).
